Super Bowl “Droughts”

The New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers enter the 2023 season as the NFL teams with the most Super Bowl championships with 6 apiece. The Patriots won Super Bowls XXXVI (2001), XXXVIII (2003), XXXIX (2004), XLIX (2014), LI (2016), and LIII (2018). The Steelers won Super Bowls IX (1974) X (1975), XIII (1978), XIV (1979), XL (2005) and XLIII (2008).

Those two franchises are followed by the Cowboys and 49ers as the arguably the most decorated in league history since the start of the Super Bowl era in 1967. So given that, we thought it would be good to insert some championship perspective. Below is a list of how many championships each NFL team has won and how long its been since it last won (it’s so-called championship drought).

Overall, 20 teams have won at least one Super Bowl. Of those 20, the Jets have the longest drought at 54 years without a title. Twelve teams have never won the Super Bowl.
