“Football in Space,” a new pop-up exhibit, is now on display at The Hall through January 1, 2018. Bryan McKay, a local Patriots fan who founded One Giant Leap, Inc., loaned the majority of items that make up this display. In addition, The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio contributed a Patriots jersey that was flown in space by Astronaut Peggy Whitson, who had the honor of being the first female commander of the International Space Station during Expedition 16 and again during Expedition 52.
Notable artifacts in this display include:
- A “Go Navy, Beat Army” Flag belonging to US Naval Academy graduate Chris Orwoll flown in space by US Navy Submariner and astronaut Steve Bowen on Space Transport System (STS) 133 from February 24 – March 9, 2011.
- Photo of astronaut Sunita Williams, a die-hard Patriots fan, conducting a video downlink from the International Space station with Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. She had Gronk sign the photo when she met him last year.
- Photo collage and mission patches from the crew of Expedition 14 which ran from September 17, 2006 through April 21, 2007, and much more.
“Football in Space” is located in our “Grand Hall” on the third floor of The Hall.
